Anthocyanin biosynthesis (Zea mays)
From WikiPathways
Description
Anthocyanins pigments contribute to red, purple, violet and blue colors to many plant parts including the maize kernels. These pigments help attract pollinators and seed dispersal agents besides defending plants against abiotic and biotic stresses. In maize/corn the anthocyanin biosynthesis genes are known to be activated as a single unit by complex of MYB-bHLH-WD40 transcription factors. Biosynthesis of anthocyanins occurrs via the flavonoid pathway and is differentially regulated in dicot and monocot plant species.
