Flavonoid biosynthesis is one of best studied secondary metabolite pathways in plants. Flavonoids comprise thousands of chemicals, some of with exhibit strong anti-microbial, antioxidant, and anticancer activities. The pathway and its regulation have been well studied, but several species specific modifications of core compounds are less well known. In addition, a variety of links to isopren-, terpene-, and glucose-metabolism in plants exist.
